Live edge furniture and decor can be made either by using the wood slabs alone or by incorporating several pieces into a mold and filling the gaps with a colorful resin. The bark is first removed and finely cleaned removing all loose debris. The natural holes and cracks are filled with resins. Then the product is carefully straightened and sanded to a smooth finish. The top coats are applied for a beautiful natural finish.

Often gnarly wood and burls are used for a more dramatic effect. Burl wood is created when slabs are cut from cross-sections of trees with serious burls, or growths with irregular grain patterns that form after a tree is damaged or stressed. Some burls may be found in the roots of trees, while others may be located at the base or higher up. The grain patterns in burl slabs are incredible with distinct coloration, burly grain, and mineral stains or voids.
